       King Louis VII on Second Crusade in 1147.  Alive in 1200.

VIII. ADRIEN DYEL, ADRIEN DIEL, Seigneur d'Enneval

        Sentenced to a long term in prison for killing a man in a duel after dueling was
        outlawed by the king, Adrien was pardoned by King Francois I at the request of
        his cousin, Jean-Francois de La Roque de Roberval, the viceroy of New France or
        Canada in order that Adrien could serve as a commander of troops as part of
        Cartier's third expedition to New France.  Cartier sailed in May of 1541, but
        Adrien accompanied Roberval in April of 1542.

        He distinguished himself many times during the conquest of the new
        world in 1545 and was cited for valor on other naval expeditions.
        
        In 1546, he led his troops to the rescue of Boulogne, France which
        was under seige by the English.

        In August 1561, he was appointed by the King of France to escort 
        Mary, Queen of Scots, back to Scotland.  He went by the name of
        Baron de La Garde.

        He married JEANNE Le BRETON 10 JAN 1528.  Was she the daughter of
        Guillaume Le Breton Bastille who was on at least one of Cartier's expeditions??

              Commandant of a vessel and naval hero, he was wounded in a
              battle with the Spanish navy for the Island of St.Christophe
              in September 1629 and died in October.  The Spaniards took
              him aboard their vessel out of respect for his valor.

XI.  ADRIEN DYEL, Seigneur de Vaudroques and Gournay

       Became Governor General of Martinque in
       September 1658 after the death of his brother,
       JACQUES Dyel Du Parquet.
       married in 1642 to ANNE LeMOINE
       died in office 24 October 1662.

I JACQUES DYEL Du Parquet Born 1611, the 3rd son of Pierre Dyel and Adrienne Belain D'Esnambuc. Captain of the PICARDIE Regiment, major of Calais in 1633. Became Governor of Martinique after the death of his uncle, Pierre Belain D'Esnambuc. JACQUES was named Governor General in 1650. He married MARIE SAINT ANDRE BONNARD 21 NOV 1645 in secret, then officially 31 APR 1647 after the annulment of Marie's marriage to St. Andre. Died 03 JAN 1658 in Martinique. A romantic novel entitled "Marie des Isles" by Robert Gaillard depicts the lives of Jacques Dyel and Marie Bonnard and was also made into a very bad movie. They had: 1. JEAN JACQUES DYEL, Count de Sorel and Captain of a vessel. married his cousin, CATHERINE DYEL, daughter of Adrien Dyel and Francoise De Vipart. They had no children. 2. LOUIS DYEL (See II below) 3. The tombstone of Jeanne Gabrielle Gigou in Cailleville had an inscription which is no longer readable that said the Dyels were descended from the high and powerful lords, the milords, of England. The inscription follows; dotted lines replace the parts that were unreadable: "Ci-git le corps de dame Genose de KERVILLOT cousine de Messire de Kervillot , evesque de St-Pol de Leon en Basse-Bretagne, épouse de Messire Adrien Dyel, escuyer seigneur de Graville. Les Dyel descendans des hauts et puissans seigneurs de Diel, milords d'Angleterre. Cy-devant grenetiers du roi en Normandie les Dyel... ...les sous le règne.........décédée le 18 ........ agée de 79 ans."

The inscription refers to a place named Diel - in England? in France?
The Dyels were descended from the Lords of Diel.
One name is spelled with an "i", the other with a "y".

             participated with the fleet in a campaign under M. Duchasaud
             in Canada during the seige at Louisbourg, Cape Breton, and again
             in 1759 under the Marechal de Conflans.  He left the service in
             1763.

             born 27 MAR 1745.  Became a Cadet in the Artillery at
             Martinique  in 1759.  Left the military in 1762.

             born 19 APR 1746
             Became a Cadet in the Artillery at Martinique in 1759
             Promoted to Lt. in the Regiment at Beauvoisis in 1772.

   Children by first marriage:

            Advocate and Bailiff in the Viscomte of Arques, France

	2.  JACQUES DYEL
            Seigneur de Miromesnil and Counsillor at the Parlement of
            Rouen from 18 MAY 1581.  In 1590, in the service of King
            HENRI IV, he took part in the battle of Saint Victor during
            the seige of Dieppe, and the battle at Arques.  His seigneures
            de Miromesnil at Tourville-sur-Arque had been damaged.

            Born at Arques, France.
            Died 31 MAR 1628 and buried at St.Croix  de Rouen.

            First married MARTHE De CROISMARE, daughter of Jean and Marie
            Gombault.

            Second marriage was to MARIE Du JARDIN, daughter of Andre and
            Jeanne Voisin.

            Third marriage was to JEANNE MORANT, daughter of Thomas and
            Massiotte Morel.


        3.  JEAN DYEL, Seigneur Des Hameaux and Beanay.
            Died in May 1624.
            He was Advocate in 1579, councillor in Rouen in 1582.
            He served as first President at the Court Des Aides
            at Rouen in 1591.

            First married by contract of 06 FEB 1583 to MADELEINE Du MOUCHEL,
            widow of Jean Paul de Bures and daughter of Pierre du MOUCHEL and
            Anne Lefebvre.  Madeleine died December 31, 1595 and was buried at
            Saint Croix de Rouen.  Mouchel or Moucel.

            Second marriage on 19 OCT 1597 to NICOLE LeCLERC, daughter
            of Nicolas and Jeanne Forest.

         They had:

              a.  JEAN DYEL, Seigneur Des Hameaux and Baron de Chambray.
                           Councillor at the Palace at Rouen and Ambassador
                           to Venice.  In 1624, he served as President of the
                           Parlement at the court Des Aides in Rouen.

                     Married SUZANNE ARDIER.  No children.

              b.  JACQUES DYEL, Seigneur de Miromesnil, councillor at the
                                Palace in Rouen.
                     Died in 1662.
                     Married 28 APR 1629 to MARIE FRANCOISE LeTELLIER,
                     daughter of Pierre and Marie Secille in Paris.

                  They had:
