Eugene Victor Guiel entered military service on April 25, 1917 at Ft. Ethan Allen, Vermont, after the U.S. entered WWI on April 6, and was assigned to Btry F, 12th Field Artillery Regiment (Ft. Myer, VA) which became part of the newly formed 2nd Division that September. He sailed from New York with the 12th Fld Arty Regiment on January 11, 1918 and stayed with that unit until demobilization with the rank of corporal. His unit was in engagements at Aisne, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and was deployed in the Defensive Sector. They stayed after Armistice Day, November 11, 1918, prepared for offensive operations pending the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. He was honorably discharged at Camp Devens on August 14, 1919. " Gene" was the son of Louis Daniel Guiel and Mary Melanie Edwidge Chagnon. He was a resident of Granby, Massachusetts and was 20 years old at the time of enlistment.
